Diamond by pyrohmstr Diamond by pyrohmstr
Here is a diamond in Maxwell with dispersion and all that good stuff....i have a feeling that no matter how long i render it...there will be noise....tough luck...this was more to play with the material than to get some awesome render....that comes later

No, please don't.

If you want, I do commissions and can make you a diamond of higher quality that will be more suited to your need. Then you can do whatever you want with it.

You'll have to be a little more specific, but I can definitely make you another diamond. It'll be $50 and I can have it done quickly. Paypal is good.

You can do whatever you want :D if you find someone that will let you use it off-site for free then go for it. There are a lot of great stock websites out there.

However, if you want to use mine, or want me to make you one custom, I'll gladly work with you to figure out a fair price. My work isn't for stock which is why I'm not particularly inclined to let it be used for free.

well, first you should model a diamond. Then give a material with an IOR of like 2.55 (probably higher) remember, material for looks not for physical accuracy because some renderers don't do IORs the same way the real world does

seriously? i thought there would be some special parameter. ah well im using vray so it should be able to do that sort of stuff
thnx

the biggest thing is to model a diamond as correctly as possible...there might be some special setting in vray to enable dispersion or a word to that effect and you'll need to enable that to get the different colors in the light (which I imagine you knew) this can be a bitch and a half on the processor so have fun :]

[link]:Diamond_facets.svg should help you

oh yeah good point. its actually really hard to make out the geometrical shape of them because of all the REFLECTIONS and REFRACTIONS!
yeah

hmm im not sure if vray can disperse colours properly, i could fake it by changing reflect or refract colour based on angle of incidence but i have a feeling that doind so would make the entire thing transmit differently coloured light...

i might have to play around with it a bit
thanks!

thanks! I wish it had rendered better...but I've seen the official demo-renders of diamonds on the Maxwell website and they all have that grainy look to them....

Maxwell calculates light differently than other renderer's...its a very interesting process to read about...I'll send you a link for it if you would like.
