Based on a Figma model called Drossel...I guess from an anime called fireball or something...I found an image while googling something irrelevant and decided to model the thing

The site is all in Japanese and I tried to find mention of a DVD but I'm not sure if it was ever translated...

Anyway, I modeled this in blender 2.5.2a on my laptop when I was home (which was a hellish experience) and I remodeled some of it on my desktop when I got back to school. It stands at a mere 273,000 quads.

I did the materials and rendered it in Maxwell 2. Something like 6 hours and to an SL of 11ish

Then I used photoshop (which was my first time ever) to remove some of the noise from maxwell. I think it worked well.

Anyway, thoughts and comments and so forth :]

I was going to model a Drossel also, but I found one made for MMD. MMD can render the model at 30 frames per second and make it dance. MMD is fast and free.

Cool, I don't know much about Drossel, but I know you did a very good job making it look like her.
I thought it was a plastic Figma model at first.
You can do Blender much better than me.
I will stay with Lightwave 3d.

I used a picture of a figma model as reference. I didn't know what it was, just some image I found of a robot doll. I found out about Drossel and Fireball after from the comments people made on here.

It's a Disney show and subs do exist of it.

Unfortunately the humor in the shorts is very Japanese so I doubt it will air in the US or otherwise.
But it is pretty cool.

Nice model though. I guess a few bits are for artistic license but the head feels kind of weird still.

Keep it up!

I only had a single picture of the doll and I made it with my laptop :p so not all of it is exactly accurate

There are subs? I would like to watch it. Is there anywhere I can? I couldn't even find a DVD of it or anything

Heh, I can barely make two sides match up. Then again last time I tried 3d was fifteen years ago when BALL and CONE made one go OOH!

I don't recall the group that did it. But I bet its the same that is doing the sequel (Fireball Charming) that's airing right now.

Then again, not sure.

I just watched all of them :la: apparently they're making new ones this year and they look really cool.

It's all in Japanese though and I can't read it to see if it's ever been translated.

Miku Hatsune also has pony tails high up on the back of her head. She also has a short skirt.
I have even seen Drossel parts used for armor on Miku in a fan made animation.
Miku Miku Dance, also called MMD is a free 3d animation program used by many to make dance motions and to animate Miku and her friends.
Someone made a 3d Drossel model that works in MMD. Many people make models in Blender or Lightwave or other 3d programs and then the models are converted to PMD models to be used in MMD for animation fun. Type in MMD on youtube for hundreds of cool videos made by fans of Miku.

Ooh so we finally see it completed! Nice work. I like the render... and the modeling is solid, but the figure as a whole looks thinner and more rigid than the actual toy. Also I'm not sure why your rendition has bent uhhh "pontytails" when the original has smooth curved ones.

I liked the bent ones more...I tried them both ways

As for it being rigid, the model is too loose to stand up on it's own (I think). I was really just using the image as an idea and not as an exact template. I also made the black parts more like panels instead of screws because I figured that a robot would need panels to access the joints underneath. This is my first character model in a few years, so there are issues that need to be worked out.
